About the Author
Margaret Matlin currently holds the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor of Psychology at SUNY Geneseo, where she has taught courses in the Psychology of Women for 36 years. Dr. Matlin has been honored with several major teaching awards, including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, the American Psychological Association Teaching of Psychology Award for four-year institutions, the American Psychological Foundation's Distinguished Teaching in Psychology Award, and the Society for the Psychology of Women's Heritage Award for lifetime contributions to the teaching of the psychology of women. She is currently the Teaching Section Editor for the journal, Psychology of Women Quarterly.

It was not as enlightening as I hoped. Most of the book's information can be found in your general marriage and family social textbooks.

From cover to (soft) cover, content is great

This is a good textbook, though as always your opinion of it will vary depending on how closely your ideas align with the narrative. Liberal and cultural feminists will enjoy this text. It has a good amount of content that is easy to absorb. My studies are within sociology, but this higher-level psych book does not leave me out of the loop at all and I am having no trouble keeping up with the rest of the psychology majors in class. It's a good textbook and I highly recommend if you want to get a grasp on how gender influences our life experiences.
My only annoyance with this textbook is that it is not hard cover, but this is by no means an anomaly. It feels like less and less of my books are coming in traditional hardcover, which is good for the environment and for the publisher's wallets. It'd be nice if students got to see a drop in price alongside this obvious downgrade, but alas.

It was a required book, but I found that she made sweeping generalizations that I personally, as a woman, didn't find true.
