He has published extensively in Arabic and English, with several books and numerous articles on the Arabic novel, the short story and drama. He is currently lecturer in Arabic at the School of Oriental and African Studies [University of London].

Solid, not excellent

A few words about the book itself:
There are 11 selections, somewhat graded in difficulty. The apparatus has been kept to a minimum, hence the reader must keep his Wehr at hand. The notes are helpful, but not copious; however, the contours of the stories are outlined before the text of the story is presented, assisting the less experienced reader. I recommend reading the summaries after the story, not before, since they give away crucial plot points.
I would grade this book 3 stars, since the glossaries are too rudimentary, but I decided to rate it at 4 stars, because it does not deserve such low rating based purely upon the Kindle version (of course, I am sympathetic with the complaints and glad I bought a paper copy instead).

poor execution in kindle.

the arabic text is handled as a picture; as such its size is not adjustable and is quite small. the real problem is that the text of the stories is so light as to be mostly illegible. this is cleverly hidden in the downloadable sample by the fact that only the introduction is included. in its current format, a ten dollar scam.

Not for Kindle

I agree, this does not work in Kindle and should not be presented as a Kindle book. Kindle needs to address the lack of support for Arabic fonts.
